May 2024 - Visitor Update
We appreciate the concern some visitors will have regarding the recent reports of the cryptosporidium outbreak in the water supply in South Devon. The CEO at English Riviera, Carolyn Custerson, who represents the area’s tourism board, would like to reassure visitors that measures are in place to contain the outbreak and steps are being carried out to ensure visitor safety such as only using bottled or boiled water in hotels and restaurants in the affected areas.
The vast majority of attractions, accommodations, restaurants, and natural wonders throughout the English Riviera remain unaffected and open for visitors to enjoy.
Our dedicated teams are working tirelessly to provide accurate information and support to both visitors and locals in partnership with the council and relevant bodies.
We wish to reassure you that the English Riviera remains a safe destination for travellers and is open for business as usual.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support and we look forward to welcoming you to the English Riviera.
Escape the everyday
The warmest of welcomes awaits you on the English Riviera, South Devon's beautiful coastline. Surrounded by stunning coast and countryside, Torquay, Babbacombe, Cockington, Paignton, Goodrington and Brixham offer fantastic year-round holidays with lots of things to do for everyone!
A Beach Holiday and So Much More
The English Riviera may be most famous for its award-winning sandy beaches and exotic palm trees, but has much more to offer than just seaside holidays. The English Riviera has a great choice of indoor and outdoor attractions and is a designated UNESCO Global Geopark. Getting out on the water is what our visitors love to do, and there is a great selection of watersports and boat trips.
The Perfect Place to Stay
As one of the country’s most popular holiday destinations, there’s no shortage of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets, including a growing choice of award-winning hotels, bed and breakfasts and quality self catering establishments.
A Year Round Events Programme
The English Riviera offers a packed diary of events throughout the year. There are many attractions, things to do and events that centre around Agatha Christie, Torquay's most famous resident, including the annual Agatha Christie Festival, as well as the world-famous Brixham Pirate Festival and England's Seafood FEAST.
A Gastronomic Delight
On what is now known as England's Seafood Coast, the English Riviera is a haven of food and drink, and whether you are looking to grab a quick bite or a Michelin starred restaurant for that special occasion, you will find everything in our little corner of Devon to suit your palate and budget.
